Big changes with google maps

LVW integration with Google maps and location address validation been much improved.

The visual changes to the maps on your site should be obvious. This is still work in progress, but things are much improved.

Things to consider are:

  • The map balloons can now show a picture.
  • It is important to create a suitable Tag line for each location.
  • The code can only map up to 396 locations with a unique location marker. If you go over that limit please let me know.

Address validation

For the mapping to work your site should have a valid Google Maps API key. I created one for nearly every site. If you have problem please contact me or generate the key yourself.

LVW needs to calculate latitude and longitude points for each location if they are to be placed on the map. The accuracy of these points are determined by the quality of the address you supply.

LVW has changed the mechanism it uses for this transformation and now it is much more robust.

Post code are no longer essential and non UK site should now be able to take advantage of the maps for the firts time.

No longer will you receive emails about bad address. Instead LVW records an accuracy rating against every address. There is a new report highlighting those address that may be problematic. Try it here.

Sorry to those who received at lot of "bad address" email yesterday. It was only after releasing the code did I realise how to make google more tolerant of bad addresses. Any way, you should seen no more of them, but do have a look at the above report.
